Appropriate Greetings

This post is not specifically dog-related. I may be spending way too much time with my canine friend, but I was thinking about the differences and similarities between human and canine greetings.

I always found it a little odd, and a bit embarrassing at times, when Cody greets dogs and humans by sniffing, well, you've all seen it.

In the past week, I've had many encounters from meeting new people in various situations. I've found that we do about the same as humans. Checking each other out subtley, whether it be interviewing, meeting people in bars or dating situations, or just new co-workers or friends of friends. There's always that little "test", whether it be conscious or subconscious where you're judging the other person by your own standards. That is, after all, why first impressions are so important.

Especially when meeting new people, I've found that I "test" the other person by asking questions and seeing what kind of answers they have. I also tell stories to show the "better" side of me. In essence, I feel like I'm interviewing the other person and being interviewed at the same time. Then again, maybe this is just me and I spend way too much analyzing this kind of stuff.

I should just spend more time running and hiking with Cody instead. I know he'd probably prefer it :)
